Inspired by the ballet Giselle and featuring a cast of 30 young dancers, Curing Albrecht is shot on location at Manchester’s spectacular Victoria Baths. It explores themes of ‘dancing mania’  a medieval social phenomenon, where people who caught the dancing plague are known to have danced to their deaths.

 

Commissioned by English National Ballet and produced in partnership with Manchester International Festival, 'Curing Albrecht' has had over 150k views and 3k shares in its first weekend online and was subsequently hosted on BBC iPlayer and Canal+TV. Curing Albrecht was first screened as a curtain raiser to Akram Khan’s Giselle, during English National Ballet’s opening run at Sadler's Wells. 

 

To date, it has won 7 awards at International Film Festivals, including Best Dance Film 2017 at New Renaissance Film Festival (UK), Best Director at Portland Dance Film Festival (USA), and the Audience Award at Barcelona’s Choreoscope Festival.
